Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL), founded in 1884, is one of the world's most powerful shipping companies.
Founded as a key part of the Mitsui zaibatsu (family-owned conglomerate) during the early industrialization of Japan, the company is now independent of the zaibatsu, but remains part of the Mitsui keiretsu (group of aligned companies).
Headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, it operates more than 800 vessels, from containerships to tramp vessels and specialized carriers for cargoes including automobiles, iron ore, coal, wood chips, crude oil, liquefied natural gas (LNG), and chemicals.
The MOL Group's total logistics service links sea, air, and land transport, warehousing, and distribution. The Group fleet also include coastal liners, cruise ships, and ferries.
